Recently, employees of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. Houston Division and Marek Brothers, a Houston area subcontractor McCarthy has worked with on multiple projects, teamed up at the Community Family Center of Houston to spend the day distributing grocery items, organizing storage areas and improving the landscape and play areas around the facility. Every Friday, the Community Family Center employees and volunteers provide hundreds of elderly, disabled and low- income families with grocery items to last for a month.

Community Family Center in Houston is a multi-service non-profit organization for families within Houston’s impoverished Greater East End. Their mission is to equip families with the tools they need to become self-sufficient members of the community.

The volunteer workday was made possible by McCarthy's "Heart Hats" program, an initiative dedicated to encouraging, supporting and recognizing McCarthy employees' volunteer efforts in a variety of causes to ensure real needs are being met in communities where employees work, live and play. This company-wide volunteer program allows McCarthy employees across the country to take at least one (paid) full-day off from work annually to utilize their building skills and other talents to aid local organizations such as Community Family Center of Houston.
